GIA DiamondCheck

GIA DiamondCheck

GIA DiamondCheck is a desktop diamond verification instrument for loose stones, designed to separate diamonds from synthetic diamonds and diamond simulants. GIA DiamondCheck is manually operated and gives an automatic test result.

The performance metrics shown below are based on testing done in 2019 using the ASSURE 1.0 test standard and sample sets. The Diamond Check has not been tested under ASSURE 2.0.

Stone Testing Capability

Weight: 0.01 ct -10 ct maximum total depth of stone is 15mm
Size: 01.25mm +
Colour: D-N
Shape: All
Diamond Simulants: Yes
Mounted Stones: No

Instrument Performance

The below results demonstrate the performance of the GIA DiamondCheck with the ASSURE 1.0 Core Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 4.1%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 95.6%
Speed (stones tested per hour): 105

The ASSURE 1.0 Core Sample consists of 1,000 loose diamonds, 200 loose synthetic diamonds and 200 loose diamond simulants. The stones are 0.02ct to 0.20ct in D-J colour.

Instrument Capabilities

Automated Feed: No
Automated Results: Yes
Automated Dispense: No
Detect or Refer (Synthetic Diamonds): Refer
Detect or Refer (Diamond Simulants): Detect
Multiple Stones at Once: No
Training Required: Recommended

The instrument tests individual stones and automatically displays one of the following results:

  1. Natural diamond
  2. Diamond; refer for further testing
  3. Non-diamond

The ‘Diamond; refer for further testing’ result could contain potential synthetic diamonds or diamonds. These referrals should be tested further for full verification.

A background spectrum must be collected once per day or any time the software is closed and reopened. The system takes about 20 seconds to collect the background. Alignment of the spectrometer is recommended once a month.
