Celebrity Diamond Jewelry Spotlight: Jennifer Lopez

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got, she’s still Jenny from the Block.

Throughout her nearly three-decade career as a musician, actress, beauty mogul, and pop culture icon, Jennifer Lopez has proven herself to be a natural diamond aficionado. On Wednesday, the pop star dropped her latest single “Can’t Get Enough,” from her forthcoming ninth studio album, This Is Me…Now. Lopez teased some hints about the new project on the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, with her Boucheron Hopi, the Hummingbird diamond jewelry suit.

“My earrings have hummingbirds – it’s hummingbird season,” she told Extra. “As you will see, these are little Easter eggs from my project, you will know what they mean when you see the film. It [will be] on Amazon February 16.”

The star previously shared in her newsletter On the JLo, “To me, hummingbirds are messengers of love.” She said, “They’re very agile – can fly forward, backward, and up and down. They’re also the fastest bird but they always have time to stop, eat something sweet, and smell the roses.”

In her newly released “Can’t Get Enough” music video, Lopez excitedly gets married, with fun-filled bridal gowns, a diamond tennis necklace, diamond drop earrings, a new engagement ring, and even interchangeable husbands.

The Hustlers actress has quite the collection of diamond engagement rings in real life as well. First, Ojani Noa presented Lopez with a pear-shaped diamond on a gold band before they married in 1997. Then, her backup dancer Cris Judd popped the question in 2001 with an emerald-cut diamond before Affleck came into the picture for the first time. Marc Anthony got down on one knee in 2004 with an 8.5-carat emerald-cut Harry Winston blue diamond before the couple split in 2012. Even as recently as 2021, Lopez revealed that her blue diamond is still her most treasured piece of jewelry.

Her next suitor came through with her largest diamond yet. Baseball player Alex Rodriguez proposed in 2019 with a 15-carat emerald-cut diamond. After four years together and a million-dollar engagement ring, A.Rod and J.Lo called off their engagement in April of 2021.

20 years after their first engagement in 2002, Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot in August 2022. After Affleck proposed to J.Lo with a 6.1-carat Harry Winston pink diamond in the early-aughts, the actor chose yet another colorful diamond this time around. In April 2022, Affleck proposed with an 8.5-carat cushion cut fancy vivid green diamond engagement ring, symbolizing “luck,”  according to Lopez, who has said green is her lucky color. Purchased from Ilan Portugali of Beverly Hills Diamonds and designed by Rahaminov, the stone is set in a classic platinum mounting with a trapezoid-shaped white diamond on each side.

Hailed as the second-coming of iconic Hollywood couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, “Bennifer” has also gained a reputation for their meet-cute on a film set (Gigli vs. Cleopatra), their highly-publicized breakup and subsequent rekindled romance, AND their expression of love through diamond jewelry. When is comes to diamonds, to be compared to Elizabeth Taylor is the greatest compliment of all.

Just last month, the couple was spotted on a shopping spree in St Barts. Lopez was trying on a few diamond pieces from Bulgari as Affleck snapped her photo and investigated pieces from the jeweler’s Cinemagia high jewelry collection.

Think you gotta keep her iced? You don’t. Apart from romantic gifts and engagement rings, Lopez knows how to deck herself out in diamonds all on her own. She typically sticks to her tried-and-true jewelry designers, often opting for Harry Winston or Fred Leighton diamonds for red carpet occasions. The multihyphenate is known for incorporating diamonds into her work, like the iconic Harry Winston moment in her film Maid in Manhattan or her Pasquale Bruni diamonds in Marry Me.

In honor of new J.Lo music coming our way, Only Natural Diamonds is looking back on Lopez’s best natural diamond jewelry moments of all time, from her engagement rings to red carpet appearances and more.
