Putting together a wedding day look can be more complicated than expected. Once you have the dress–the most important element, of course–you’ll need your veil. And your shoes. And your purse. And of course, you can’t forget about the bling, which is what we’re here for. Wedding jewelry is usually the last piece of the puzzle, but it’s important to make sure that when all eyes are on you, you have earrings to match your wedding hairstyle and your wedding attire.
First things first: When deciding on your wedding hairstyle, go for something that feels the most *you.* If you always wear your hair down, do the same on your wedding day–but with added texture or a sleek part to make it feel more formal. If you’re a ponytail or bun gal, go for an elevated version of your everyday updo for the big day.
We spoke with celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan whose star clients include Khloé Kardashian and Ashley Graham) for the best tips and tricks to figuring out what diamond jewelry pieces work best with every popular bridal hairstyle. From messy buns to sleek chignons, Marjan has you covered below.
The Best Earrings to Match Your Wedding Hairstyle
When it comes to statement earrings, your best bet is to wear your hair up. “I love a dramatic earring with a sleek updo,” gushes Marjan. “Depending on the overall look, drop earrings or a chunky stud make a look appear elegant while framing the face.” We couldn’t agree more.

If you’re going for a more boho vibe with a messy updo or a low bun with face-framing tendrils, Marjan recommends a hoop. “It feels young, fun, and effortless with a little bit of edge.” Sounds like the perfect look for an alternative or anti-bride!

Wearing your hair down on your big day but still want your earrings to match your wedding hairstyle? “Something timeless that won’t get caught or lost in the hair is ideal,” recommends Marjan. “I love a chunky stud or huggie!” Same, girl.

If you’re looking for a little extra sparkle to add to your wedding day look, a headband or a tiara will make you feel like the queen you are on your wedding day. “I love playing with sparkly hair accessories for a chic wedding ‘do,” says Marjan. “Depending on the overall theme of the wedding and style of the dress, sparkly bobby pins, a headband, comb or tiara could all be beautiful options.” Headbands and combs are perfect for a preppy, classic bride, while sparkly bobby pins or a tiara can be a great addition for a bride with a vintage edge.
If you really want to go all out, why not rent a spectacular tiara for your wedding day? “I love an elegant updo or hair down with a tiara,” adds Marjan. There’s truly no wrong way to style a tiara! Even short-haired queens can rock a tiara, she tells us. “Styled sleek and slicked back or down with a slight wave would look beautiful.” We couldn’t agree more.
Headbands and pins are relatively easy to secure, but Marjan gave us a few tips for making sure your wedding tiara stays in place all night long. “If the tiara has a comb attachment to put in the hair, make sure the underlayer of hair where the comb will attach is teased at the root and sprayed with a strong hold hairspray like Tresemme Extra Hold Hairspray,” she explains. “If it is heavier and you are worried about it slipping or falling off, you can always create a tiny braid underneath to pin the tiara to.” A genius hair hack if we’ve ever heard one!
Marjan leaves us with one final—but very important—tip: “It’s easy to go overboard on accessories,” she says. “So decide if the focus of the outfit will be on accessories with a more simple design for the dress or less accessories with something more busy.” Justine Marjan, Accessories Queen, coming through with the sage advice!
