Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey had plenty of explosive moments. And while we were captivated by the intimate details revealed by the royal couple, we were admittedly even more enthralled with Meghan’s jewelry, specifically, her natural diamond tennis bracelet that once belonged to Princess Diana.
Meghan’s choice to honor her mother-in-law by wearing her iconic diamond tennis bracelet was a significant one: for centuries diamonds have represented our precious relationships with other people.
As Princess Diana always took creative liberty in the styling of her jewels, in her Oprah appearance, Meghan did too, layering the diamond bracelet with two others—one being a Cartier Love bracelet, which symbolizes eternal love.
We often select jewelry to connect to things we believe are important, and build our jewelry collections to reflect our innermost feelings with individualism and style.
It’s clear that Meghan and Harry feel connected to Princess Diana not only because of bloodline, but because of their similar relationship with the press and the lack of support they are sensing from the royal family. Meghan’s homage to Diana by way of diamonds reflects that connection even more.
Beyond the obvious tribute to Diana, the bracelet holds even more meaning than we thought. According to People, it’s the same bracelet that was used to craft Meghan’s gorgeous engagement ring; two of the stones from this very bracelet sit on a band on the Duchesses’ ring finger. So touching!
The two side stones on Meghan’s ring are from Diana’s bracelet and the third center stone is a natural diamond from Botswana, a place close to Harry’s heart. The ring honors both Prince Harry’s past and his current passions, two things his wife took on as her own when they wed back in 2018.
This is not the first time the Duchess of Sussex has worn a piece of jewelry in tribute to Prince Harry’s late mother, and we’re sure it won’t be the last. So what else from Lady Di has Meghan worn?
There were the gold butterfly earrings from Meghan’s trip to Australia in 2018. Adorned with diamonds, the butterfly wings span across Meghan’s ear for a delicate yet bold look.
The aquamarine ring Meghan wore to her wedding reception at Frogmore cottage was a favorite accessory of Diana’s back in the day, and of course, the two side diamonds in Meghan’s engagement ring once belonged to Diana as well.
Meghan looked absolutely gorgeous during the televised talk with Oprah, and Harry as dapper as ever. The duo presented a strong united front during the compelling interview and gave the public an inside look into what it’s been like for the couple during this tumultuous time.
Despite the royal drama going on at Buckingham palace and beyond, we are happy to see the couple thriving in California with their son Archie and a second baby on the way. With ongoing production deals at Netflix and Disney, Meghan and Harry certainly have their plates full and we are so excited to see what the future brings for the couple and their family.
