Though the engagement ring tends to get all the fanfare, wedding bands deserve their time to shine as well (no pun intended, but also pun intended). The engagement ring is a gift one partner gives to the other to celebrate spending the rest of their lives together, but wedding rings arguably symbolize something deeper. They are a symbol of eternal love and commitment within a relationship, which is why they are exchanged on the big day.

While many don’t put as much thought into their wedding bands as their engagement rings, they should really be considered an important piece of jewelry. Plus, this is another chance to make a statement about your partnership. Wedding bands can be absolutely dazzling and there is a lot of freedom with them. Ahead, a look at some of the biggest women’s wedding band trends for 2025.

A Brief History of Wedding Bands

For a little bit of context on wedding rings (and to give them some extra attention), the tradition of wearing wedding bands dates back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians were known to exchange simple braided rings made of hemp to symbolize eternal love. After that, the Romans started using metal bands made of iron or gold and engravings on the rings. By the Middle Ages, wedding bands became ornate declarations of love with gemstones, more detailed engravings, and religious symbols.

During the Renaissance, posy rings engraved with short romantic poems were all the rage (that must have been a lot of time hunched over for those craftsmen). The Victorian and Edwardian eras saw the rise of elaborate goldwork and delicate filigree (ornamental metalwork). Wedding bands in the 20th century were a bit more restrained (starting with the post-WWII era, with plain gold bands becoming the quintessential symbol of marriage.

“There is so much historical context around the ring being a circle with no start and end along with it being worn on the fourth finger, where the ‘Vena Amoris’ leads directly to the heart. It serves as a reminder of love and commitment for all to see,” says Brent Stern, President of Rogers & Hollands | Ashcroft & Oak.

Today with so many natural diamond choices for wedding bands there is so much more freedom with styles and personalization.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025

This year, wedding bands are all about personality. From chunky bands and vintage-inspired details to hidden engravings and mixed metals, 2025’s trends embrace individuality while exuding timeless elegance.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: The Open Band

Starting off with a particularly unique one, the open band trend has had a big year. This is a band that features a break in it, creating a beautiful piece of open space in your ring. It is a modern twist on tradition that will catch anyone’s eye (so have a prepared statement for why you chose it).

The open wedding band is definitely a little unconventional, so it’s perfect for an individual who has a creative flair but still wants to look chic. These pair especially well with fancy-shaped center stones, east-west settings and other non-traditional settings. An open band also plays beautifully in a stack, adding an airy elegance and balanced contrast to more traditional styles.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Chunky Wedding Bands

Thick engagement rings are certainly having a moment—just look at Charli XCX and Dua Lipa, who are all about the bold look. We’re also seeing chunkier silhouettes carry over into wedding bands, many of which are adorned with stunning diamonds. These chunky bands are major statement pieces and can be worn on their own. You may want to consider sizing up your ring size with these when purchasing.

“This year, we’re seeing a strong shift toward chunkier silhouettes and substantial gold bands that feel sculptural and statement-making. It’s a big shift from the dainty designs that have been more prominent the past few years,” Mallory Shelter, owner of DC-based fine jewelry boutique Shelter, says.

This year, we’re seeing a strong shift toward chunkier silhouettes and substantial gold bands that feel sculptural and statement-making.

These large-and-in-charge bands take many forms—cigar bands with diamonds, bold bombe rings, and domed bands encrusted with pavé diamonds—all offering dramatic presence and a fresh alternative to more delicate styles. “As a jeweler, we love the thicker bands as it gives us more room for creativity and customization.  These also allow guests to decide to wear the band with or without the engagement ring, or even wear the engagement ring on the other hand.  These are a great way to differentiate and be unique,” Stern says.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Stacking Rings

Why have one band when you can have two? Or three? Stacking multiple bands with different metals, diamonds, and designs is another great example of how couples customize these very special rings.  (And yes, as mentioned above, open bands look particularly beautiful when layered, their negative space providing contrast and breathing room within a fuller stack.) Shelter noted that she sees a “continued love for stacking bands that allow couples to add on pieces over time to mark milestones.”

We love the idea of celebrating a major milestone with a new ring. Perhaps a delicate diamond pavé band to honor the birth of a child, or a colored gemstone ring to commemorate a personal achievement or what about a band for every 5 years you are married? Hopefully, you will have quite the stack over time.

Speaking of customization, who doesn’t want a ring that tells a story? Wedding bands with discreet personalized engravings are another trend of the moment. Many couples are choosing to design their bands together, adding an extra-emotional layer to the process. Whether it’s a secret message only visible under a loupe or a birthstone set where only you can see it, these hidden details make the piece feel like a private love letter in metal form.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Wavy Rings

Wavy silhouettes aren’t just for engagement rings—bands with fluid, wave-inspired designs are another style to watch. Wavy bands pair effortlessly with asymmetrical or vintage engagement rings, fitting snugly around unusual stone shapes or settings. They’re classic with just the right amount of whimsy—a modern nod to nature-inspired design that feels fresh yet timeless. Designers are also accenting the curves with delicate diamonds, adding a shimmer that catches and dances in the light.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Vintage-Inspired Rings

Obviously, vintage-inspired diamond cuts are having a moment right now (thank you, Taylor Swift), and this extends to the wedding band as well.  Think delicate filigree, milgrain edging, and Art Deco–style geometric patterns that evoke the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s. These rings often feature intricate metalwork and craftsmanship reminiscent of a bygone era—perfect for those who want their jewelry to feel romantic and steeped in history.

“Celebrating a big moment like marriage needs to be timeless, a little vintage inspiration that looks back on another decade in the past and combines that with what you hold close will be both stylish and meaningful for now and forever,” says Stern.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Contrasting Metal Rings

Though it used to be considered a faux pas if you mixed metals with your rings, in 2025 contrasting metals are not only allowed—they’re decidedly chic. Once again, this points to the rise of personality-driven ring design.

The contrast adds dimension and character, allowing wearers to play with color and tone while maintaining a luxurious balance. And because you don’t have to worry about being matchy, it opens the door to layering more styles together—whether it’s rose gold next to platinum or yellow gold stacked with white gold, the mix of metals feels modern, daring, and in tune with today’s love for self-expression.

Women’s Wedding Band Trends of 2025: Statement Diamond Rings

When Hailey Steinfeld wore her stunning wedding band ring featuring large oval diamonds to Paris Couture Week, it got more attention than her Tamara Ralph dress. Though she has a fabulous engagement ring—a 4-carat round diamond set on a slim platinum band estimated to be worth as much as $150,000—from her now husband Josh Allen, the actress chose to wear just the band to the Paris shows. Brides are increasingly opting for glitzier, statement wedding bands set with natural diamonds—think bold oval or emerald-cut stones, wide pavé-set rows, or chunky eternity styles—that can be worn alone as a showpiece or stacked for even greater impact.

Melanie Goldfiner Goldberg- Director of Marketing at Rahaminov Diamonds, said, “We are seeing a strong pull toward substantial diamond eternity bands and rich yellow-gold bands — pieces that feel significant, sculptural, and designed to be cherished for a lifetime.”
