The Golden Globes has a brilliant way of setting the diamond jewelry trends you will come to see over the entire course of red carpet season, a time of year that runs from now until the Oscars when we spend every late Sunday night obsessively analyzing the head-to-toe looks of Tinseltown’s finest. And it doesn’t stop there: many of the looks tend to spill over into our own wardrobes as well—just take a look at our trend report and you’ll see how.

If last night’s showing was any indication, one of the biggest trends to emerge from the 2021 Golden Globes were diamond earrings in every variety; we’re talkin’ dangle drop, ear crawlers, studs and pretty much everything in between. These sparkling baubles are basically made to catch above-the-neck light, and make for a perfect option for today’s Zoom-driven world—and of course the Golden Globe’s first-ever virtual ceremony. Can you believe it was just a year ago that Golden Globes attendees gathered in person with Ricky Gervais in the pre-COVID-19 world?!

Peep our top diamond earring looks and some of the other best red carpet jewelry trends from the 78th Annual Golden Globes below:

Anya Taylor-Joy

The Queen’s Gambit star snagged a much-deserved Golden Globe for her role in the show, but that wasn’t her only regal moment during the night. Taylor-Joy, who worked with stylist Law Roach for this divine look, stunned in over $1 million worth of Tiffany & Co. diamonds, with ELLE reporting the actress was wearing a $195,000 platinum and diamond necklace, $1.5 million platinum and diamond earrings and a platinum and diamond ring valued at $130,000.

Tina Fey

The comedy queen was back to host alongside her friend and collaborator, Amy Poehler. Fey wore a Pomellato gold wire necklace that featured stunning diamond-encrusted links at the center. One link had a slight drop, which allowed it to shine beautifully from her black v-neck blazer. Also fierce enough to accompany her jokes—which kept this year’s telecast lively even though nominees weren’t there in person—was a second look, later in the evening by Fred Leighton. Fey wore an antique old mine cut diamond fringe necklace circa the 1880s, and three carat (each!) diamond collet-set drop earrings, plus a 15.12 carat Cabochon Burma sapphire and diamond ring. Hostess with the mostest.

Kaley Cuoco

This double-nominee turned heads in an Oscar de la Renta gown that was reminiscent of Cinderella at that very special ball. The star and creator of The Flight Attendant wore Harry Winston jewels, including diamond cluster earrings and a show-stopping marquise-shaped diamond cluster ring, perfectly styled with another cluster band.

Regina King

Regina King always comes to slay. This year, she was nominated for a behind-the-camera role of directing One Night in Miami, and to appropriately commemorate the huge achievement, she shimmered in sparkling Forevermark diamond drop earrings alongside other baubles, which included a five-stone flower diamond ring set and an eternity band. The entire look, which also included a massive oval diamond halo ring and sheik two-stone was said to be valued at $2,000,000 (!).

Carey Mulligan

Commenting on Carey Mulligan’s Cartier ear cuff on her Instagram Stories, Town & Country Editor-in-Chief & ELLE Decor Editorial Director Stellene Vollandes predicted earrings would be a big trend for the night—and she was right on the money. “It’s the Zoomification of the red carpet,” she said.

This statuesque Hollywood vet knows that precious fine jewelry and gemstones truly complete a red carpet look. Case in point: her Cathy Waterman 22 karat gold peach tourmaline and diamond deconstructed garland ring, a standout moment against her sunlight bright yellow evening gown.

Anthony Anderson

Dapper and debonair, Black-ish star Anthony Anderson stole the show in the men’s jewelry department with a diamond brooch which was shaped like a flower. JCK reports it was from Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie collection, and was a mix of white and brown diamonds set in 18 karat white gold.

Nicola Coughlan

Nicola Coughlan, who splashed onto the scene as Penelope Featherington in Shonda Rhimes’ hit Bridgerton, wore an oval De Beers diamond ring that—fans self—was too stunning for words. Not to be missed either was her gorgeous diamond tennis bracelet, which she used to complete the look.

Mamma Mia!, you might have exclaimed when you caught your first glimpse of nominee Amanda Seyfried in Forevermark‘s Exceptional Diamond Vivid Yellow Drop Earrings, which weighed in at a whopping 10.43 total carats. Her diamond choker was also Forevermark by Rahaminov and set in 18 karat white gold, clocking in at 12.35 total carat weight.

Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland, who is a supporting actress in the final season of Modern Family, stunned in a cherry red floor-length Monique L’huillier gown, which could only be accompanied by exquisite Lorraine Schwartz diamond chandelier earrings. The earrings featured tons of large stones in different cuts that cascaded down into an upside down triangle shape.

Maya Rudolph

Luckily for everyone watching, Maya Rudolph appeared alongside fellow Saturday Night Live alum Kenan Thompson in a hilarious sketch on the Globes stage. But her jewelry was not joking around, thanks to the statement-making Phillipa diamond ear cuff by designer Ana Khouri, which elevated her bright floral gown.

Something her infamous Moulin Rouge character Satine might wear, Nicole Kidman’s 22 carat diamond and recycled gold Sword Earrings by Cathy Waterman affirm that “Diamonds Are [definitely] a Girl’s Best Friend”.

Julia Garner

Julia Garner, who was nominated for her supporting role in the TV drama Ozark, where she portrays a rough-and-tumble character, uses her red carpet moments to remind us she is the most glamorous of actress types. To further prove it, she wore the most fabulous black and diamond cuff bracelets by Verdura, a supreme statement-maker that went alongside her beige and black gown featuring a plunging neckline.

Angela Bassett, who presented an award at the ceremony, perfectly complemented her stunning purple Dolce & Gabbana gown with sapphire and diamond earrings, as well as a diamond and indicolite ring valued at $20,7650—both from Graziela Gems.

Margot Robbie in Chanel Diamonds

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie, a past nominee, presented at last night’s Golden Globes while wearing all-out Chanel Diamonds—and well, all-out Chanel. Robbie also carried a customized gem-encrusted Chanel evening bag to top her look off, though the jury is still out on whether those gemstones were natural diamonds.

Andra Day, wearing Chanel Fine Jewelry (Photo: Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for CHANEL)

Andra Day

Andra Day, who was nominated for Best Actress in the drama category for her role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, was also wearing stunning Chanel jewels for the Golden Globe Awards. From a shimmering, light-attracting diamond chandelier ear-crawler on display thanks to her gorgeous up-do, to a wrap bangle and statement ring, the star was—as they say—dripping in diamonds.

Kate Hudson in Bvlgari (Photo: NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson’s red carpet (or Zoom carpet?) look didn’t disappoint. The star, joined at home by her entire family, donned sparkling Bvlgari diamond chandelier earrings. Proving sometimes less is more, the danglers were so good alone that the actress didn’t opt for an accompanying necklace in an attempt to best show them off. Success.

Cynthia Erivo wearing Wempe (Photo: @cynthiaerivo Story)

Cynthia Erivo

We saved the best for last, clearly. Cynthia Erivo, had two nominations: one for Best Actress in a Motion Picture in the Drama category for Harriet, and one for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for Stand Up. Being a versatile talent is one thing to celebrate, but we’re pretty sure Erivo is also scoring lots of Best Dressed lists for this Golden Globes look, which was comprised of an eye-catching lime green gown from Maison Valentino, and paired with the most unique, sun-inspired diamond earrings from Wempe.

The actress’s cropped hair is like a magnet for ear parties, and as was the case at previous awards shows, she didn’t pass up on the opportunity to finish off her look by lining diamond earrings all the way up her lobe—not to mention a very eye-catching diamond septum ring.
