De Beers’s Exhibition at Frieze Masters

At Frieze Masters, De Beers will debut a new, immersive experience titled “Voyage Through the Diamond Realm.” The exhibition invites viewers into the boundless world of natural diamonds, opening the doors to the artistry and mystery that reside within each natural wonder.

What is Frieze Masters?

Frieze Masters is an annual art fair held in a marquee in Regent’s Park, London. Launched in 2012 as an offshoot of Frieze London, which began in 2003, the fair offers a distinct focus. While Frieze London focuses on contemporary art, Frieze Masters, as its name suggests, celebrates the Old Masters and antiquities.

Frieze Masters was founded in 2012 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, with Emanuela Tarizzo serving as Director. Each year, the world’s leading galleries gather in Regent’s Park and bring with them museum-quality pieces that attract top collectors. From collectible objects to significant masterpieces spanning the ancient era and Old Masters to the late 20th century, Frieze Masters offers art to suit all tastes and sensibilities. This year, the art fair hosted 130 of the most significant galleries from around the world.

Frieze London, the sister fair to Frieze Masters, is within walking distance and takes place at the same time, so art lovers and collectors can see the contemporary works (created mainly after 2000) at Frieze London and also have the opportunity to see classic and ancient pieces at Frieze Masters. Connecting Frieze Masters and Frieze London is Frieze Sculpture, a free exhibition of major outdoor works located in The Regent’s Park’s English Gardens. Each year, more than 60,000 visitors attend Frieze Masters and Frieze London.

De Beer’s twenty-minute-long film employs visual storytelling, ethereal videography, and soundscapes, immersing the viewer in the eternal world of diamonds that span across space and time. The audience is invited to reflect upon river diamonds, cosmic diamonds, and desert diamonds—and how all were formed at the beginning of time and will transcend to the end. From stardust to the sparkling jewels we know well.

“Forged in the heat and fire soon after our planet was created, each diamond holds the quiet power of deep time – a reminder that the world is older, wilder, and more extraordinary than we often let ourselves feel. Diamonds connect us to our origins – deep within the earth and high in the stars,” says Lynn Serfaty, General Manager of Natural Diamonds at De Beers. We are earthly and cosmic at once, and so are they, and we look forward to sharing these untold stories with visitors this Autumn.”

The film is set across five chapters, taking the audience on a journey through time and space,
revealing the untold and often unheard stories of natural diamond origins. It features members of the natural diamond community and the industry across Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and France. Their voices are deeply rooted in the lands where the history, myths, and tales of diamonds have taken shape over centuries, giving them a special connection to the project.

“The work illuminates the history, myths, and legends of the origins of natural diamonds—from their birth as stardust in the fiery hearts of stars, to their discovery in the wild landscapes of rivers, deserts, and ice,” according to a press release from De Beers. “It reveals how diamonds have inspired humanity’s most enchanting stories about life and our place in the universe.”

Previous Connections Between De Beers and Art
