It has been nearly 30 years since Ally McBeal premiered on Fox, and the nation could not stop talking about the costumes for this legal drama with a young, female protagonist. Audiences were completely fixated on the (very) short skirt length of the neurotic lawyer, and it would go on to spark a national conversation about fashion, feminism, and attire in the workplace.

Once again, the world can not stop talking about the costume design on a new legal drama about women on Hulu called All’s Fair, which premiered on Hulu on November 14. However, this time it is for very different reasons (and certainly more glamorous ones than a short hemline).

The new series from creator Ryan Murphy features an all-star cast including Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor, and a newcomer named Glenn Close, as well as a myriad of impressive guest stars, including Judith Light and Grace Gummer.

All’s Fair centers on a cadre of extremely high-powered female lawyers who break away from their stodgy old male-dominated firm to start a divorce practice catering exclusively to women. Like most Murphy shows, the plotlines are outrageous, disturbing, and often quite funny. But even a businessman with a very colorful secret love life cannot compete with the incredible costumes on this show—specifically the incredible natural diamond jewelry

The diamonds featured on All’s Fair not only function as a pivotal plotline but also as a tool for character personality and ambition. Only Natural Diamonds spoke with costume designer Paula Bradley and with Pasquale Bruni’s Creative Director, Eugenia Bruni, who lent jewelry for the production.

The Symbolism Behind Kim K’s Pasquale Bruni Pieces in All’s Fair

Kardashian’s character, Allura Grant, anchors the ensemble with some of the show’s most memorable fashion moments. While every costume is stunning, hers are the boldest—amplified by the dazzling diamond jewelry she wears.

Early on in the pilot, Allura sets the tone for the entire series when her dinner outfit is a 2006 runway cutout semi-sheer dress by Roberto Cavalli (worn backwards). She accessorizes it with jaw-dropping pieces by Pasqual Bruni: The Goddess Garden collier, the Heart to Earth earrings, and two Heart to Earth rings. It is a showstopper of a look, and the audience is immediately captivated.

Eugenia Bruni, the Creative Director of Pasquale Bruni, and daughter of founder Pasquale Bruni, told Only Natural Diamonds, “Kim’s character embodies a bold and intentional femininity — powerful yet deeply intuitive. The jewels mirror that duality: strength expressed through softness, confidence through sensuality.   The Goddess Garden Collier and Heart to Earth earrings capture her character’s essence perfectly — their presence is immediately striking, yet fluid and soft to the touch like a sparkling, woven knit,” she says.

Bruni also notes that the pieces move with her energy, almost as if alive, accompanying her every step. Together, they intensify her allure while grounding her power in something innately graceful, yet real.

According to Bruni, pairing emeralds with diamonds was an intentional and evocative choice: emeralds symbolize renewal, vitality, and a deep connection between the heart and the natural world, while diamonds represent clarity and illumination. Together, they strike a balance between grounded strength and luminous femininity—the very essence of both collections and of the show in general.

The Creative Director also worked closely with Kardashian’s stylist Soki Mak. Bruni said their creation was born from a shared understanding of storytelling through jewelry. They formed a creative exchange that flowed effortlessly and felt like second nature. “Soki sought pieces that could visually express Allura’s duality — her power, femininity, and underlying vulnerability. Each jewel was chosen to flow naturally with her wardrobe and reflect the emotional tone of the scene,” she says.

How Designers and Stylists Brought a Diamond Auction to Life on All’s Fair

In Episode 2 of All’s Fair, Judith Light’s character quips, “You know what a girl’s best friend is? Not diamonds — her lawyers,” as she unloads a dazzling jewelry collection amid a messy divorce. We’re not so sure she’s wrong.

This divorce plot is a central focus of the first few episodes, as it not only showcases stunning natural diamonds but also shows their power. Light’s character loses nearly everything in the split—except the exquisite jewels her ex-husband gifted over the years, which her brilliant lawyer, Liberty Ronson (Watts), figures out are legally hers due to California marriage law.

To get any money from her marriage, she will need to hold an auction to sell her jewels, which, of course, takes place at Christie’s. Holding the auction at the iconic Christie’s only deepens its emotional and symbolic impact. Bradley was aware that a Christie’s jewelry auction would be a focus in the series early on, so she and her team spent a lot of time preparing for it.

“We knew that this scene in particular needed to be the best of the best,” she says. According to Bradley, they worked with several brands such as Tiffany & Co.., Verdura, Foundrae, Marie Mas & State Property to help elevate the look of the show with diamond jewelry.

Not only were the women admiring and bidding on spectacular pieces—like a diamond-encrusted vintage Verdura floral brooch—but they were also dressed to show they meant business, often competing against one another in the auction room.

“Naomi is wearing a full Valentino look from Resort ’25. With Niecy, we took the opportunity to make a full custom look for him, paired with a custom hat from Frances Grey. Glenn Close wears a fantastic Erdem Coat with her own personal jewelry that was gifted to her by Giorgio Armani,” says Bradley. She noted that one of her favorite looks on Sarah Paulson appears in this scene: a Christian Dior set paired with Fendi heels, finished with an incredible Tiffany & Co. Apollo by Tiffany brooch and matching Tiffany earrings.

As for how a costume designer secures so many incredible jewels at once, Bradley credits Jode Mann, the show’s exceptional prop master, who sourced all the jewelry seen on camera in Judith Light’s safe—later featured in the Christie’s auction scene. “We worked very closely with her to make sure that all the pieces on camera, whether real or replica, really felt like they belonged in that space,” Bradley says.

Power Dressing on All’s Fair, Redefined with Natural Diamonds

In addition to the stunning jewels, every female character on the show makes a profound statement with their clothing. Bradley told The New York Times that no two women ever wear the same color on screen, and every scene is layered with bows, hats, dramatic coats—and, of course, Birkin bags—with their formidable colleagues always looming in the background.

Even in moments meant to feel casual, like in the pilot, when Allura learns her husband wants a divorce, her “comfy clothes” are anything but: cashmere pants paired with the plushest, most luxurious fur jacket you’ve ever seen. Watts’ character, Liberty, also slyly gains access to her client’s ex-husband’s home and negotiates for her client’s share with sharp legal maneuvers, all while impeccably dressed in a cape coat and hat. (You can bet Perry Mason never did that.) Then again, “casual” hardly exists in this world, where elbow-length leather gloves and diamond brooches are standard attire for even the most mundane tasks.

Clearly, the costume designs are supposed to be heightened for these high-powered, ambitious, and massively lucrative lawyers, but Bradley explains the reasoning. “In 2025, we have really broken the glass ceiling—and ‘realistic’ is something that no longer stands. Women can wear and style the power suit however they feel works for them,” she says. “Luxury pieces are something that are no longer just cherished for special events. Women can express their personal style without restriction in both the office and the boardroom,” For example, Allura wears the diamond and platinum Tiffany Soleste® ring, typically worn as an engagement ring, in platinum as everyday jewelry

Bradley says her team worked tirelessly to refine each costume, ensuring it felt elevated and perfectly at home within the vast and beautiful GRG Law office set designed by Cat Smith. “Whether it was designing the perfect color-matching blouse to pair with a Max Mara suit or working with Tiffany & Co., each outfit needed to stand on its own and feel thoughtful,” she says.

The Role of Natural Diamonds in All’s Fair

It’s undeniable that diamonds take center stage in the new Hulu series All’s Fair. From shaping character motives, to revealing emotions, and are literally and figuratively used as symbols of power. Thanks to the great work of Bradley and her team, as well as Mak, what emerges is a visual language that feels both aspirational and intentional.

And for Paula Bradley, the experience was as extraordinary behind the scenes as it looked on screen. “The cast of women on this show made it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Ryan Murphy’s vision for the fashion in the series — from the jewelry to the hats to the gloves — gave us the chance to bring our editorial dreams to life. It was a joy to create these characters and collaborate with these leading ladies,” she says.
