Pushing Boundaries with Fine Jewellery

Tara Fine Jewellery’s unique designs are created to change the way people look and wear jewellery, one piece at a time.

Once upon a time, fine jewellery pieces only saw the light of day a few times a year, when they came out of bank lockers for special occasions. With the changing times however, people, especially women, want to adopt daintier, lighter and quirkier pieces of fine jewellery that they can wear everyday. They want pieces which can help them take the spotlight on the daily, no matter where they are or what they are doing.

Enter, Tara Daswani. Owner of contemporary jewellery brand Tara Fine Jewellery, which changes the definition of what fine jewellery looks like. While now designing unique jewellery pieces is her playground, there was a time when this line of work wasn’t even close to being on her radar, despite her family having been in the business for over 80 years.

“If you had told me 5 years ago that I’d be designing jewellery, I’d have laughed at the very thought. After all, I was the kind of person who barely even wore jewellery, let alone design them,” says Tara. “For me, jewellery designs were always too plain, predictable and honestly, nothing that I would wear.”

But all that changed, when she started designing pieces for her friends and family 3 years ago.

“I feel like jewellery has been taken too seriously for too long. All I want to do is have fun with it and create pieces that I would enjoy wearing personally,” she says. “When I design, I want to make sure that each piece has the same three qualities – they’re unique, wearable and truly original.”

Bringing this vision to life, are the bold, effortless and contemporary designs of Tara Fine Jewellery. From ludo boards, to names and even spiders, Tara takes inspiration from everything that surrounds her and is constantly sketching ideas for new designs. “I have so many books filled with sketches, but only a few of them come to life,” laughs Tara, “but each one has been crafted with a piece of me and that’s what makes them so special!”

“No matter what material I’m using, be it metal, enamel or even stone, my piece is incomplete without natural diamonds. They just elevate the design to a whole other level and add that extra sparkle my pieces need to stand out, without being too loud,”

says Tara Daswani, while talking about a common yet unique characteristic in all her designs.

Stories and signatures
Almost every piece coming out of Tara Fine Jewellery can be called as the brand’s signature – from stackable rings to enamel bracelets, statement earrings, multi-wear pieces and even name necklaces! However, there are three pieces that make the cut for Tara to call her signature pieces.

‘Rock’ing palm trees
Tara loves bringing home souvenirs from vacations. However, unlike most people, her souvenirs don’t end up as a showpiece on the mantle. They become beautiful jewellery pieces like her Palm Baguette earrings.

“It all began with the stones, to be honest,” explains Tara. “I found these on vacation and fell in love with their colour. Moreover, even though they were a pair, they are so beautifully different, I couldn’t leave them behind!”

After bringing the stones home, she started designing the earrings with delicate palm tree-like features with fine gold lines and branches, with natural diamonds acting as the leaves.

“The beauty of this pair is that they’re not exactly the same! Fine gold and natural diamonds that follow the curves and shape of this gorgeous green stone… How could I not let it remain this unique!” she laughs.

Cascading style
Having always loved waterfalls, for Tara, creating these earrings were nothing short of a miracle. “The main focus was to create the drama of a waterfall’s trajectory,” she recalls.

In a true feat of expert craftsmanship, this piece was designed one strand of metal at a time. Each baguette shaped diamond hand cut individually to recreate perfection. The other challenge though, was creating enough drama on all sides of the trajectory, so that the design didn’t fall flat from any angle. After months of trying and not succeeding, the piece came to life as the pride of Tara’s collection. “It’s a piece that’s so close to my heart, because really, it’s a masterpiece of craftsmanship!”

Eyes of Love
Fashion statements aren’t the only things Tara makes with her jewellery. She also makes statements of her belief, in an unusually beautiful way. “I’ve never believed in the concept of nazar. And I try to bring in my personality and beliefs into my designs. That’s how my LOVEly eye collection came to life!”

The LOVEly eye collection comprises a heart studded with natural diamonds in the centre of every eye, complete with unique baguette cut diamond eyelashes, set on either stone, glass or any material she can think of. “It’s my way of telling the world that I wish nothing but the best for everyone.”

“Jewellery is a beautiful way of showcasing who you are. You can show off your personality, both elegant and quirky with a simple piece… especially when they stand out with unique designs and natural diamonds!”
