As the Olympic flame was lit, signaling the official beginning of the Games, the ceremony unfolded with a series of spectacular performances, culminating in a highly anticipated appearance by Mariah Carey, who delivered one of the night’s most memorable moments. Mariah Carey took to the stage to perform an Italian rendition of Nel blu, dipinto di blu, the beloved classic universally known as Volare, written by Domenico Modugno and Franco Migliacci. Carey wore a diamond suite valued at $15M from the Belgian high jewelry maison, including a necklace, earrings, and bracelet, crafted in platinum and set with over 306 carats of exceptional natural emerald-cut diamonds. The pieces were designed specifically for Carey, reimagined from a signature LEVUMA design.

The necklace features a 20-carat, D-flawless emerald cut diamond pendant, hanging from two strings of more emerald-cut diamonds, weighing in at 185 carats. She also wore 66-carat emerald cut diamond drop earrings, each featuring a standout 10 and 15-carat diamond. Finishing off the look is an emerald-cut diamond bracelet, with a total weight of 55 carats.

The story starts at Christmas in 2020, as Ms. Carey was set to celebrate the diamond disc of her holiday anthem, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and received the book presenting Chopard’s famed Red Carpet Collection. According to author Topher Gauk-Roger, Carey prides herself on being slightly extra at all times, and that couldn’t be more apparent than during her appearance at the 2019 amfAR Cannes Gala.
