Hailey Bieber Added a New Nameplate Anklet to Her Jewelry Box

This December, Bieber was spotted out and about with Kendall Jenner, on her way to a holiday party, flashing a new sparkling anklet. The star later gave a closer look on Instagram within one of her famed photo dumps. Bieber snapped a pic of baby Jack’s little foot next to hers, displaying the new diamond bauble on her ankle.
Designed by jeweler Alex Moss, the anklet features a dainty gold chain with a 14-karat gold nameplate spelling out her son’s name, “Jack,” in script, embellished with VVS white diamonds, with a heart-shaped diamond sitting beneath.
Hailey Bieber’s Collection of Diamond Initial Necklaces

Initial jewelry dates all the way back to ancient times, when Greek and Roman rulers utilized monograms on coins to identify the region or ruler from which the coin came. Both civilizations appreciated jewelry and were known to wear initial pendant necklaces.
The tradition continued into medieval times, and initials were commonly used on trinkets like mirrors and silverware. Anne Boleyn famously wore a gold “B” pendant on a strand of pearls around her neck. This striking piece was captured in her official portrait dating back to the 16th century, now housed in London’s National Portrait Gallery.
In Victorian times, initial jewelry became popular among couples, with a rise of lockets and monograms as romantic gifts between lovers, often with their two initials intertwined as a symbol of the relationship.
By the mid-century, legendary jeweler Fulco di Verdura added his own twist to the trend, crafting a diamond-set initial bracelet for his friend, Margaret “Nin” Ryan. A decade later, his fascination with personalization evolved into a dazzling diamond alphabet inspired by the ornate lettering of Renaissance manuscripts. Today, Verdura’s stylized diamond letters remain among the Maison’s most beloved designs.
Today, a diamond initial necklace can be used to represent a romantic love of a partner, a familial love of a child or grandchild, or self-love when wearing one’s own initial on a necklace. Styles run the gamut as well, from the trendy chubby initial to the more classic dainty style.
Alex Moss Bubble “B” Initial Necklace

Bieber rarely steps out without her diamond bubble “B” initial pendant, a signature piece she wears day and night. Designed by Alex Moss in collaboration with Bieber herself, the pendant has become a true pièce de résistance—and a defining element of her street style. Moss credits Bieber with sparking the idea for the playful bubble letter, which he envisioned as an inflatable balloon before bringing it to life in diamonds.
Given the high profile of Bieber’s pendant, the necklace may be one of the most recognizable personally owned celebrity jewels outside of an engagement ring. The Rhode founder’s monogrammed bauble reached viral status almost instantly, becoming an instant internet sensation, cementing its place in modern street style culture.
Alex Moss Bubble “JBB” Initial Necklace

After the beauty entrepreneur made the puffy, bejeweled bubble B initial pendant necklace a staple of her day-to-day wardrobe, she commissioned Alex Moss once again to recreate the magic. She had a “jbb” natural diamond bubble initial necklace made in honor of her son, Jack Blues Bieber. Hailey has been known to wear the heartfelt jewel underneath her signature B as a dynamic diamond duo.
Jennifer Fisher “JDB” Initial Necklace

Back in 2021, Bieber stepped out in her husband’s initials – of course, encrusted with natural diamonds. The star wore a custom-made Jennifer Fisher Fixed Large Gothic Monogram Letter necklace with pavé-set white diamonds on an 18” long link chain. The initials “jdb” dangle as separate charms on the chain in 18-karat gold, standing for her hubby’s full name, Justin Drew Bieber.
Hailey Bieber’s Collection of Diamond Nameplate Necklaces

Thanks to its rich and widespread cultural significance, nameplate jewelry received some well-deserved flowers when authors Isabel Attyah Flower and Marcel Rosa-Salas peeled back the layers of the onion in their book, The Nameplate: Jewelry, Culture, and Identity. In the book’s introduction, Flower and Rosa-Salas write, “Like most expressions of culture, nameplates have no singular origin. Adornment in the form of language is as old as writing itself, and there has been throughout history, an inherent and undeniable power in decorating one’s body with one’s own name.”
The history of nameplate jewelry can be traced all the way back to ancient Egypt. Pharaohs and members of the highest echelons of society dipped gold signet rings engraved with hieroglyphic writing into wax to sign official documents. English and Judaic traditions saw mourning jewelry adorn names during the Victorian era. Cultures hailing from Hawaii and Panama adopted the nameplate as family heirlooms and talismans signifying a coming-of-age.
During the excavation of the Titanic in 1987, a nameplate bracelet was unearthed, dating back to the early twentieth century. The name “Amy” is forged in script, set with natural diamonds on a curb link chain.
In the early 1990s, nameplate necklaces spiked in popularity amongst Black and Latino youth culture. An assertion of pride and identity with an affirmation of individuality, the nameplate found love within the hip-hop circuit.
The nameplate necklace hit the “mainstream” once it was featured in the HBO hit series Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, was known for her fantastic wardrobe and jewelry box. As iconic as her beloved Manolo Blahnik heels and Fendi baguette bags, the gold “Carrie necklace” became synonymous with the stylish character, inspiring countless “dupes” throughout the show’s six-season run.
Diamond “Jack” Nameplate Necklace

This August, Bieber posted a summer-loving photo dump to Instagram, leading with a sun-kissed selfie. The model posed in a field, wearing a deep-plunging crimson red halter top, exposing her gold and diamond “Jack” nameplate necklace, glistening in the sun.
Eliantte Bubble “Bieber” Nameplate Necklace

Before her bubble “B” pendant, Hailey sported a custom “Bieber” nameplate necklace, crafted with pink and white natural diamonds, designed by Elliot Eliantte with the help of Justin Bieber.
Hailey Bieber’s Collection of Diamond Initial Rings

From Marie Antoinette to Missy Elliott, the diamond initial ring has put the power of personalization in the hands of the wearer for generations. Now, stars like Hailey Bieber are picking up the mantle.
Whether it’s self-referential or sentimental, the diamond initial ring is one of the best ways to personalize your jewelry. If you opt to wear your own initial inscribed in diamonds, or a loved one’s, the initial ring puts an intimate symbolism right in the palm of your hand.
Signet rings were some of the earliest iterations of the initial ring. They can be traced as far back as 3500 BC in ancient Mesopotamia, where they used cylindrical seals as marks of authenticity. They became even more crucial in the fourteenth century when King Edward II decreed that all legal documents must be signed with the King’s signet ring. Signet-style rings from this time period were destroyed after the owner’s death to avoid forgery.
The ancient Egyptians made some of the first signet rings as we know them today, engraved with hieroglyphics. In ancient Rome, senators wore signet rings on their pinky finger to impress their seals in the hot wax for important messages and documents. After all, the word signet comes from the Latin signum, meaning “sign.”
By the 18th century, Marie Antoinette got in on the action, commissioning a monogrammed ring, emblazoned with her initials “M” and “A” overlapping in diamonds.
Though styles change throughout history, the initial ring has remained a source of individualism and power. By the 1990s, pop culture saw the Hip-Hop scene adopt the timeless style in the form of nameplate rings. LL Cool J became known for his iconic four-finger gold ring that spelled out his given name, James, along with his audacious diamond-embellished “Cool J” ring.
Isa Grutman “JBB” Initial Ring

Bieber has recently added to her collection, wearing a new initial ring by luxury jewelry Isa Grutman. Worn on her middle finger, the new diamond ring features Jack Blues Bieber’s initials, “JBB.” The Rhode founder took to her Instagram Stories to display her Isa Grutman diamond-encrusted Mom ring on a gold band.
Alex Moss Bubble “J” Initial Ring

Bieber collaborated with New York–based jeweler Alex Moss once again to create a bubble letter “J” ring, representing her husband, Justin. The jewel comes after Moss and Bieber already successfully worked together on her diamond “B” bubble letter pendant necklace.
“JB” Initial Ring (and “B” Initial Necklace)

Among her “JBB” ring and her “J” initial ring, Hailey has yet another diamond initial ring in her collection. Throughout 2023, the star was spotted on several occasions, rocking a “JB” ring on her right ring finger, opposite her famed oval-shaped diamond engagement ring.
