Renowned designer Fernando Jorge is going back to his roots with a new natural diamond-focused collection titled ‘Vertex.’ His second all-diamond collection— preceded by ‘Brilliant’ in 2017— focuses on the sleek and structural baguette cut, a major turnaround from his last collection ‘Deep Stream’, which focused on fluid shapes and organic textures.

Jorge shares how his past year spent in New York City inspired the collection, specifically how baguettes remind the designer of the city’s iconic skyline: “Over the past year, I found myself pulled towards extremes,” he said in a press release. “This movement informed my creative work while developing my most organic and natural collection. I felt simultaneously compelled to interpret the energy of the city through new designs.”

A Closer Look at the Fernando Jorge ‘Vertex’ Collection

The collection features 16 stunning natural diamond pieces, with each item showcasing a fusion of contrasting elements. The hard angles of the graduating baguettes give way to curves, presenting “a visual flow shaped by harmony and tension,” according to the press release. Articulated structures and the brilliance of diamonds set against white and yellow gold evoke a sense of kinetic energy, a signature element found within all of Jorge’s collections.

Below, Jorge shares further insight into the inspiration behind the collection, his use of natural diamonds, and what it was like coming back to these geometric designs.

Fernando Jorge on His Inspiration and Creative Process

Only Natural Diamonds: What was the inspiration behind the collection and the use of baguettes in the collection?

Fernando Jorge: Over the past couple of years, I found myself gradually drawn to structure, geometry and clean lines—elements I had rarely worked with before. I wanted to explore the architectural potential of diamonds, introducing step cuts and sharp edges into my work. Especially the baguette, which perfectly embodies modernity and simplicity in jewelry.

Looking back, it was a period of my life oscillating between calm, reflective moments in nature and intense, fast-paced days in the city—and this contrast naturally began to inform my design direction. I spent a great deal of time in New York while preparing to open my new showroom.

Surrounded by the energy and constant motion of the city, elements of the city’s iconic skyline and its Art Deco skyscrapers—particularly the graduated, stepped forms of the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, certainly informed my designs. As the collection was being developed, I realized we were approaching the centenary of the Art Deco movement, and everything clicked for Vertex to be launched this year.

Why Fernando Jorge Chose Natural Diamonds

OND: Why natural diamonds?

FJ: I’m fascinated by diamonds as a natural material. Their pure molecular structure, exceptional hardness, and unrivalled light refraction make them utterly unique.

This is my second all-diamond collection, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate the purity and permanence of natural diamonds—not only for their physical properties, but also their symbolic weight. They carry memories, emotion, and timeless beauty.

The Evolution of Fernando Jorge’s Design Language

OND: What was it like for you to go back to these bold, geometric designs after working with fluidity for so long?

FJ: It was both refreshing and challenging. The Vertex pieces are architectural and engineered to sit beautifully on the body, with movement and flow in mind. Each piece is articulated along a central line of baguette diamonds, like a spine, allowing for fluidity through rigid elements.

Who is the Fernando Jorge client, and what about this collection do you think they will gravitate toward?

FJ: The Vertex collection is bold and modern, yet deliberately wearable. It’s resonating with clients because, while it marks a new direction, it still feels like an organic extension of my aesthetic.

Fernando Jorge’s Vertex collection is available now at Fernando Jorge showrooms in London, New York City, and São Paolo and online at fernandojorge.co.uk.
