EXA

EXA

EXA is a portable desktop diamond verification instrument for mounted and loose stones designed to separate diamonds from synthetic diamonds and diamond simulants. EXA is manually operated but gives an automatic test result. EXA can also be used in Advanced User Mode permitting the operator to determine the stone type through examination of the stone’s fluorescence spectrum.

Instrument Performance

Key performance metrics measured for the EXA with the ASSURE 2.0 Primary Loose Stone Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 5.5%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 94.5%

The Primary Loose Stone Sample was tested three times and consists of 350 loose diamonds, 100 loose synthetic diamonds and 50 loose diamond simulants. The stones are 0.03 ct to 0.20 ct in D-J colour.

Key performance metrics measured for the EXA with the ASSURE 2.0 Smalls Loose Stone Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 1o.1%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 89.9%

The Smalls Loose Stone Sample was tested three times and consists of 350 loose diamonds, 100 loose synthetic diamonds and 50 loose diamond simulants. The stones are 0.005 ct to 0.02 ct in D-J colour.

The measured test speed for the EXA was 205 stones per hour.

Key performance metrics measured for the EXA with the ASSURE 2.0 Primary Mounted Stone Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 10.2%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 89.8%

The Primary Mounted Stone Sample consists of jewelry pieces with open-back settings containing a total of 303 stones. The stones are a mix of diamonds, laboratory grown diamonds and diamond simulants in the D-J colour range and have a minimum girdle diameter of 2.0 mm.

Instrument Capabilities

Automated Feed: No
Automated Results: Yes*
Automated Dispense: No
Detect or Refer (synthetic diamonds): Refer
Detect or Refer (diamond simulants): Refer
Multiple Stones at Once: No
Training Required: Yes (manual interpretation mode)

* EXA was ASSURE tested using the manual interpretation mode

As tested in manual interpretation mode, the operator determined the following results based on interpretation of fluorescence spectrum:

  1. Diamond
  2. Refer

EXA is shipped with a reference library of fluorescence spectra for various types of gemstones.
