In case you haven’t noticed, Indian men have started wearing jewellery.

To be fair, Indian men were always wearing jewellery. Indian maharajas never shied away from bling. Western colonization, adoption of British attire by men (like suits), abolition of princely states in India, and stricter gender fashion demarcations led to men dropping their jewels.

But as millennials and Gen Z continue to redefine fashion, we are seeing the return of real diamonds on men. And it’s no longer discreet. Men are becoming more experimental, bolder and unabashed with their adornments. Jewellery designer Hanut Singh explains it clearly, “Men are exploring all sorts of jewellery – chunky, massive, large, small, hip-hop, elegant – all of it. It’s like a bonanza of jewellery for men right now. They are expressive, they’re having fun, playing, mixing high and low, and I think it’s absolutely a wonderful renaissance for men and jewellery.”

Diamonds & Men

Rappers, hip hop stars, and sportsmen were some of the early adopters of jewellery in the contemporary world. Seen as a rebellious aesthetic initially, their attitude soon inspired others to follow suit. It became a culture.

Perhaps this culture shift was most apparent when actor Ranveer Singh started pairing chains with diamond bracelets or diamond brooches with equally sparkling watches. Recently, when Shahrukh Khan attended the IIFA Awards in March 2025, he coolly carried off a diamond tennis necklace with his natural suave. Karan Aujla was fully iced out during his It Was All A Dream concert in Toronto, including 4-carat real diamond studs.

Naturally, diamonds are turning out to be remarkable companions for men. In addition to being versatile, diamonds project a simple elegance. Fashion and jewellery designer Manish Malhotra concurs, “Diamonds have this effortless sophistication. They never shout for attention, but they always get noticed – I love that quiet power. For men, that’s exactly what makes diamonds so appealing. They carry a certain strength and confidence, but in a very refined way….A diamond adds just the right amount of polish – understated, yet always luxurious.”

Singh agrees with this analysis, and says, “They’ll always be the ultimate, and always be the most coveted, because there’s nothing sexier, nothing with more emotional attachment, nothing with more heightened glamour than natural diamonds.”

Meaningful Expressions

Jewellery for men, however, is serving a far greater purpose now than just adding a twinkle. It holds meaning. Harakh Mehta, owner of jewellery brand Harakh, says, “Trends are like waves — they come and go, but what stays is emotion. For men’s jewellery, I believe we’re entering an era where intention matters more than ornamentation. Pieces are becoming quieter, but more meaningful. Think talismans, not trophies. We see more men gravitating towards meaningful pieces — emblems, charms, and design that connect to purpose.”

When Badshah attended a Christian Louboutin show in June 2025 in Paris, he wore an Om diamond pendant, showing a gentle touch of identity. Similarly, when Shahrukh Khan went to Met Gala 2025 – which celebrated dandyism – he sported a giant ‘K’ diamond pendant signifying ‘King Khan’. Here are some pieces that can talk with their design.

Fluid Grace

There is also a slight shift towards gentler curves and angles in men’s jewellery. It’s no longer as ‘boxy’ as it was in the recent past – again reconnecting with the royal roots of men’s jewellery in India. “Men’s jewellery is becoming more human. And yes, that means softer at times — but softness is not weakness. If natural diamonds can be the hardest thing on Earth yet catch the gentlest light, surely men can, too! We have seen the boundaries between masculine and feminine blurring, and it’s a beautiful thing. Men are no longer afraid of sensitivity, and women no longer need to prove strength — both are inherent. Jewelry simply mirrors that evolution,” explains Mehta.

During his Bidaai ceremony, Anant Ambani wore a sunburst brooch with a heart-shaped natural diamond at the center, expressing a soft touch of romance. Here are some pieces that epitomise this evolution:

Apart from the design itself, men are styling jewellery innovatively as well. Malhotra advises layering brooches or styling brooches as buttons, adding diamond details through collar pins that blend vintage inspiration with a modern edge, all leading towards individuality. “It’s not just about wearing a simple chain or a ring anymore; it’s about how you wear it,” he emphasizes.

Here are a few jewels for men that can be layered innovatively:
