Some love stories announce themselves unexpectedly, choosing the most surprising moments to crystallise into memories that last a lifetime. One such moment unfolded this weekend in Bengaluru, beneath an open sky and a voice that has defined nostalgia for a generation.

As indie singer–songwriter Lucky Ali filled the air with a song that had soundtracked their relationship for a decade, Tarun, a Bengaluru-based consultant got down on one knee and asked Smita, his girlfriend of ten years, to marry him. What the crowd witnessed as a spontaneous declaration was the culmination of weeks of reflection, planning, and a quiet desire to choose something as enduring as the promise he was about to make.

The Real Deal? The Real Diamond Ring

Long before the lights swelled and the audience cheered, Tarun had begun the deeply personal process of picking the ring. He knew he wanted a natural diamond — a symbol not chosen for spectacle, but for permanence. What he sought was a diamond that mirrored the sincerity of his intention: something timeless, meaningful, and chosen with care.

During his search, the team at Natural Diamond Council India helped him navigate the significance of this choice and directed him to one of our favourite jewellers. On consulting with AS Motiwala, a Mumbai-based legacy jewellery brand and a trusted partner of Natural Diamond Council India, he eventually arrived at a marquise-cut natural diamond, a shape celebrated for its elegance, rarity and distinctive silhouette. It felt, to him, like the perfect expression of individuality — both his, and the love story he has built with Smita. Ashraf Motiwala, Managing Director, AS Motiwala Fine Jewellery, who was part of his journey, spoke to the emotional weight behind the decision. “We were honoured to play a small part in such a meaningful moment. Helping Tarun choose a natural diamond wasn’t just about recommending a piece of jewellery; it was about understanding the sensitivity and intention behind the proposal. The marquise cut he selected reflects both individuality and timelessness, just like the relationship he was celebrating.”

For Tarun, that symbolism felt like second nature. A natural diamond, shaped over billions of years ago, embodied a sense of longevity that matched the ten-year story he shared with his fiancée. “I wanted the proposal to reflect the lasting journey Smita and I have shared. Since that has always been the core of our relationship, I felt I should gift her something from the core of the earth. Choosing a real diamond felt instinctive—it grows over time and yet stays like new, just like us,” he said.

Real Moments Deserve Real Diamonds

For today’s couples, intention is everything. They gravitate toward meaning, toward symbols that holds more than aesthetic value — symbols that feel lived-in, lasting, and entirely their own.

Concert proposals may be the new stage for modern romance, but what unfolded in Bangalore was something gentler, more profound. It was a moment stitched together by music and memory, by years of quiet understanding, and by the craftsmanship of a real diamond chosen with purpose.

When the final notes of Lucky Ali’s song drifted into the night, what remained was the stillness after a life-changing yes — a natural diamond catching the light, holding within it a memory of a lifetime where thousands were witness to a declaration of love. A real diamond endures not because it dazzles, but because it carries emotion long after the moment has passed.
