The race car driver is rarely seen without his signature diamond pieces.

4 Ways to Wear Diamonds According to Netflix’s “Formula 1” Star Lewis Hamilton

For a masterclass on how to wear men’s jewellery confidently, look no further than seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Not one to shy away from shiny statement pieces, Hamilton, who also stars in season three of Netflix’s docuseries Formula 1: Drive to Survive, is oft-cited as the “bling king” of the sports car racing world.

“They say, ‘diamonds are a woman’s best friend,’” Hamilton once told the New York Times. “I disagree, because they can be the same for men. I’m probably the only man in my sport who wears diamonds.”

Behind the wheel, the British driver injects personality into his uniform by way of earrings—diamond studs, huggies and charm hoops decorate his multiple piercings (he also wears a Maria Tash diamond nose stud). Off-track, Hamilton uses the power of accessories to distinguish his adventurous yet sophisticated look. Even when he’s keeping it casual in streetwear, the style icon in-the-making sets himself apart by effortlessly juxtaposing t-shirts and denim with layered diamond necklaces and chunky pavé rings. If the dress code requests black tie, Hamilton’s M.O. can pretty much be summed up as: keep it swaggy and top it off with that ice.

And he has no qualms about re-wearing his favorite pieces, showing the versatility of diamonds while illustrating that guys can and should wear jewellery. Here, we examine Hamilton’s top diamond moments and let’s just say—his career isn’t the only thing glittering.

1. Brooch-ing the Subject at the 2019 Met Gala

One would think that this metallic zig zag suit doesn’t need much but Hamilton bravely pushes the boundaries with his choice of accessories. Custom-made and responsibly sourced diamond pins from New York-based Alex Soldier pull together his Tommy Hilfiger ensemble, while stacks of flashy line bracelets further punctuate the eclectic look. The Alex Soldier Diamond Astra pins were designed and created for Hamilton for his spectacular appearance at the 2019 Met Gala and feature platinum and white diamonds encasing a black diamond center. More is more, indeed.

2. Linked In Diamonds at 2019 Paris Fashion Week

Leave it to the F1 superstar to elevate a sporty street logo mishmash (albeit Valentino) while hitting the Paris Fashion Week circuit. With a knack for details, he accents the look totale with a pavé curb link necklace. Over in the front row at Acne, a diamond mariner link (aka Gucci-style) bracelet and pavé signet ring lends swagger to his head-to-toe bleached denim look.

3. Tux Redux at the 2018 CFDA Awards

Dare we say, this is one of Hamilton’s more minimal get-ups. With the top shirt buttons undone and electing to go sans bowtie, the elegant aubergine tuxedo adapts a slightly less stuffy air. Follow his lead and add a diamond-encrusted Cuban chain and strategically placed tennis necklace to up the ante.

As a longtime brand ambassador for Swiss luxury watch brand IWC, Hamilton’s wrist is hardly ever unadorned. On this particular night, he flaunted a diamond-flecked timepiece alongside his favorite Cartier diamond and ceramic Trinity ring

4. Stacked at the 2015 Monaco Grand Prix

Look through a gallery of Lewis Hamilton photos and you’ll quickly catch onto his affinity for Cartier. Naturally, the iconic Love and Juste un Clou bangles are go-to choices for a jewellery aficionado. The diamond versions, which start at $25,900 for the former design and $45,800 for the latter, are a luxurious pairing that will only appreciate in value over time. But why stop at one? Hamilton also owns the rose gold and diamond wrap version of the Juste un Clou which gets regular playtime, proving that not only is he a pro on the race course, he’s also skilled at the fine art of a wrist stack.
