GIA iD100

GIA iD100

GIA iD100 is a portable desktop diamond verification instrument for mounted and loose stones designed to separate diamonds from synthetic diamonds and diamond simulants. GIA iD100 is manually operated but gives an automatic test result.

The performance metrics shown below are based on testing done in 2019 using the ASSURE 1.0 test standard and sample sets. More recent test results for GIA iD100 can be found here in the ASSURE 2.0 Directory.

Stone Testing Capability

Weight: 0.005 ct+
Size: 0.90 mm +
Colour: D-J
Shape: All
Diamond Simulants: Yes
Mounted Stones: Yes (not yet ASSURE Tested)

Instrument Performance

The below results demonstrate the performance of the GIA iD100 with the ASSURE 1.0 Core Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 3.3%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 96.7%
Speed (stones tested per hour): 183

The ASSURE 1.0 Core Sample consists of 1,000 loose diamonds, 200 loose synthetic diamonds and 200 loose diamond simulants. The stones are 0.02ct to 0.20ct in D-J colour.

The below results demonstrate the performance of the GIA iD100 with the ASSURE 1.0 Smalls Sample:

Diamond False Positive Rate (optimal rate 0%): 0%
Diamond Referral Rate (optimal rate 0%): 4.2%
Diamond Accuracy Rate (optimal rate 100%): 95.8%
Speed (stones tested per hour): 183

The ASSURE 1.0 Smalls Sample consists of 1,000 loose diamonds, 200 loose synthetic diamonds and 200 loose diamond simulants. The stones are 0.005 ct to 0.02 ct in D-J colour.

Instrument Capabilities

Automated Feed: No
Automated Results: Yes
Automated Dispense: No
Detect or Refer (Synthetic Diamonds): Refer
Detect or Refer (Diamond Simulants): Refer
Multiple Stones at Once: No
Training Required: Yes

The instrument tests individual stones and automatically displays one of the following results:

  1. Pass
  2. Refer

The ‘Refer’ results could contain potential synthetic diamonds, diamond simulants or diamonds. These referrals should be tested further for full verification.

Room light calibration is needed once per day or whenever the environmental lighting conditions are changed.
