India’s Cannes Connection: When Diamonds Stole the Show

In India, May has always meant the season of blazing hot summers, luscious mangoes and the Queen of Red Carpet Events – Cannes. For years, we have seen a host of gorgeous women in dreamy custom-made couture dazzle us and the paparazzi alike and set new fashion trends. A festival renowned for its films, Cannes is also famous for the embodiment of style. And when you are at the pinnacle of high-fashion, there is nothing else you would choose to ornament yourself with than one-of-a-kind Natural Diamonds. Diamonds are like the perfect spice or seasoning; they complement what’s already there. Here is our throwback to the Indian celebrities who truly ruled the Cannes Red Carpet.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka chose a gorgeous Georges Hobeika white gown and kept it chic with earrings and a necklace from Chopard that she wore to the premiere of the film ‘Les Plus Belles Annees D’une Vie’. We absolutely love the idea of pairing simple elegant natural diamond jewellery with a monotone outfit for a classic and timeless look.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

A Cannes veteran, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan pulled off a look fit for a global icon in her custom look inspired by Ashi Studio’s Fall 2018 Couture Collection. The all-white look of White feathers, a strapless peplum corset and d’espirit trousers was complemented with a stunning pair of earrings set with black natural diamonds and crowned with four white marquise-shaped diamonds by Avakian Jewelry.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor has always turned heads with her sartorial choices and Cannes 2019 was no different. The fashionista donned an ivory tuxedo with a long train like gown by Ralph & Russo. Her choice of a statement emerald and natural diamond necklace by Chopard against a plunging neckline added panache and glamour to her look. Inspired by the traditional layered Satlada or Panchlada rani haar worn by Indian royalty, this look was a perfect example of how well traditional jewellery styles can be paired with modern outfits.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika graced the 2019 Cannes red carpet in a black and white custom futuristic gown designed by Peter Dundas. Her outfit was accentuated by natural diamond hoop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Her choice of earrings is a testimony to the phrase – Hoops make everything better. Her ultra-glamorous look was a real show-stopper.

Diana Penty

The stunning actress made her debut on the red carpet wearing a beige coloured, off-shouldered ball gown, layered with sequins and feathers. The look was accessorized with natural diamond earrings by de Grisogono. The earring worn by Penty are named Indian earrings. She also wore an Allegra ring by de Grisogono at the event.

Masoom Minawala

Masoom Minawala, the famous Indian fashion blogger made her debut on the red carpet wearing a stellar gown from Gabycharbachy and looked enchanting in timeless diamond jewellery from Bulgari.

Cannes has always been the event to watch on every fashionista’s list.
