Hollywood’s A-listers shined in striking natural diamond jewels at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. Glamorous statement necklaces, cascading earrings, and men’s brooches were just some of the diamond trends that Tinsletown’s finest wore to celebrate themselves and all their unique qualities and accomplishments.

Echoing the spirit of Old Hollywood and capturing the spotlight on and off the red carpet were celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, who used the power and symbolism of diamonds—born 3 billion years ago in the earth—to make a dazzling statement. She wore not just one, but two important Bulgari high jewelry floral motif necklaces paired with long earrings and rings, totaling nearly 100 carats of natural diamonds, yet she appeared feminine, elegant and playful. Looking effortlessly chic, Jennifer Aniston also channeled old Hollywood glamour at its finest with a classic 1950’s Cartier double swag diamond necklace and vintage rings and earrings. These instantly iconic looks, along with the stylish earrings, cocktail rings, and cuffs that appeared on the red carpet prove that diamonds remain the most glamourous—and enduring—red carpet accessories.

Of all the jewelry trends of the evening, the winner goes to statement necklaces. Nearly every A-lister chose a glamorous necklace to enhance their star status. Best actress nominee Scarlett Johansson stunned in a siren red Vera Wang strapless gown, but it was a magnificent Bulgari high jewelry necklace with 81 round diamonds that boosted her glowing smile. There was much debate about Jennifer Lopez’s Valentino couture gown, yet her show-stopping modern Harry Winston necklace, composed of 21 Colombian emeralds complemented with 58 diamonds, was a clear winner. Her vintage 1959 diamond bracelet, with nearly 60 carats of diamonds, was also by Harry Winston.

A longtime favorite jewelry house of Hollywood celebrities, Harry Winston dominated the red carpet. Rachel Weisz turned heads in the house’s elegant Crossover diamond necklace with a unique mix of 211 diamonds in different shapes. It illustrated the jeweler’s ability to transform diamonds into feminine, fluid designs that appear to float against the skin. The infinitely elegant Helen Mirren also wore Winston, sparkling in a diamond and platinum drop necklace, along with diamond and ruby earrings and a bracelet valued at more than $4 million. These jewels reinforced that diamonds remain the go-to stone for every A-list actress on the red carpet.

Another perennial red carpet favorite, Tiffany & Co. provided some of the most magnificent necklaces of the evening, including Charlize Theron’s modern emerald, diamond and sapphire choker from the house’s new Blue Book collection. Designed and created in Tiffany’s New York workshop, the flexible necklace was masterfully crafted to appear like a grosgrain ribbon with minimal metal settings. Equally as captivating, Ana de Armas, nominated for her performance in Knives Out, wore a diamond and sapphire Tiffany necklace, along with pear-shaped diamond earrings.

More showstoppers from the red carpet included a number of diamond necklaces from Bulgari’s new high jewelry collection, which features remarkably crafted pieces with a mix of sophisticated diamond cuts. Priyanka Chopra wore a Bulgari necklace set with over 56 carats of pear-shaped and round brilliant cut diamonds. Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo sported a choker that featured a 40-carat sapphire center, surrounded by 56.65 carats of diamonds and sapphires, along with a pair of diamond stud earrings.

When it came to earrings, diamond studs were everywhere and the bigger, the better. Zoë Kravitz wore a stand-out pair of 32-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond statement studs set in black jade (along with a 21-carat solitaire diamond ring set in platinum) and Michelle Williams glowed in Tiffany & Co. diamond stud earrings.

Beyoncé slayed in a pair of earrings set with more than 250 carats of diamonds by her go-to jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. The superstar relies on Schwartz for big, bold red-carpet jewels, and this year she carried off yet another eye-catching look. Equally as arresting,

Sophia Vergara wore oversized Lorraine Schwartz hoops studded with more than 180 carats of champagne diamonds. Lucky for Vergara, the diamonds were set in super lightweight titanium.

But, it wasn’t all about the big and bold. Some defining looks showcased elegantly styled diamond earrings, both vintage and new. Reese Witherspoon and Jodie Comer both wore pretty designs from Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger® Ribbon collection, Rachel Brosnahan wore graceful diamond drops from Forevermark, and both Tiffany Haddish and Cate Blanchett wore Pomellato’s long diamond and jeweled drops.

The evening marked a new era for men decorated with diamonds on the red carpet. All eyes were on Billy Porter, who is known for his bold style and delivered with a stunning white tuxedo replete with removable feathers. However, it was his glittering Tiffany diamond pendant necklace with an 11-carat pear-shaped diamond drop that got the most attention, along with his Tiffany dragonfly brooch and several signature T® rings.

The young Ansel Elgort wore Tiffany’s Enchant® butterfly brooch, and showed that a brooch is an expressive statement for men and women alike. Sir Elton John also charmed the audience with a brooch; his was a bespoke diamond Rocket Man made by the British jeweler Theo Fennell. Jason Momoa wore a diamond, onyx and emerald Cartier brooch, adding an elegant touch to the actor’s rough and tumble image. The best-dressed men on the red carpet opted for elegant diamond cufflinks, including Brad Pitt, who wore a pair of 1920s Cartier diamond and white enamel cufflinks from Fred Leighton, and Alex Rodriguez, who opted for Harry Winston diamond shirt studs and cufflinks.

It’s clearly the start of an exciting awards show season, where the rarity and uniqueness of natural diamond jewelry is already playing a pivotal role in defining star power.
